Piracy-friendly indie rakes in $12,000 in three days

Anodyne developer Analgesic Productions has had great success by promoting its game on The Pirate Bay.

Eurogamer reports that by making its game available to pirate, but politely pointing potential freeloaders to where they could make a purchase, Analgesic made over $12,000 in 72 hours.

Practically all of that goes straight in the indie pair’s pockets, too; they paid just $7 to Nearlyfreespeech.net to host the promotion.

4,511 copies were sold through a pay-what-you-want Humble Bundle-powered storefront, at an average of $1.74. 1,750 copies bundled with a soundtrack went for an average of $2.76. The two together represent about $11,500. About 480 copies were sold elsewhere at various prices, and about $100 was flat out donated via BitCoin.

Prior to the promotion, Anodyne had been on sale for ten days and sold less than 900 copies for about $7,200 in revenue.

The game’s Steam Greenlight campaign has also flourished.
