A good movie title should be crisp. Concise. Clear. Explain what the movie is and, if it's really good, have some hidden meaning in it once the movie ends. The movie titles I've collected here, though... I'm not saying I couldn't understand them — I do have a high school education and a LOT of experience on the streetz — but they were JUST odd enough for me to stop and wonder, if only for a second, if I had lost my mind. Here are ten super confusing movie titles.
2 Fast 2 Furious
2 Fast 2 Furious breaks all standard sequel-naming conventions. If this was only the sequel to The Fast and the Furious, it owuld have simply been called The Fast and the Furious 2. But there are TWO "2"s in this title, guys! What does that mean?! Do I add them, making this The Fast and the Furious 4? Subtract them, making this The Fast and the Furious 0? Is this a prequel? Why not just put one "2" in the title?!
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
When I first started reading the title "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy", I assumed it was referencing the main character's profession, but by the time I got to the third word, that was thrown out the window. Why do you have so many jobs, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy? Is the tailoring business not lucrative enough? Reading this title is like asking someone what their favorite candy is and they're like "Reese's, Butterfinger, Crunch, Toffee, and bananas," and you're like "That's a lot of answers and is that last one even a candy?" and then kick them out of your house.
Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood
I heard that the writer of this movie, Rebecca Wells, came up with this title three days after she ran out of food while on a vision quest hoping to "find herself".
Quantum of Solace
This is not a movie title people understand. I wouldn't be surprised to find out this title was thought up by robots from the future whose cold intellect has removed any patience for the way human beings actually talk to each other.
Lucky Number Sleven
Hey guys, "Slevin" isn't a word, okay? "Slevin" isn't a word. You don't get to name your movie by thinking of two words and then just mashing your fist into the keyboard.
Balistic: Ecks vs. Sever
I feel like this movie expects me to be really excited for the fight, as though this were the cinematic equivalent of Tyson-Holyfield. But I don't. I don't know who Ecks OR Sever are. So I'm just left wondering why this movie thinks I do.
Silver Linings Playbook
I'm doing a lot of mental math on this one. Okay, so "silver linings" are the good things you look for in bad situations. And a playbook is a collection of strategies. So does the playbook help you discover the silver linings? Or is it about developing ways to find silver linings? Eventually, I just end up thinking I shouldn't have to spend so much time thinking about what a movie title means. I'm already using a lot of brain power to think about Batman and ways to beat old NES games, so it would be really great if movies like Silver Lining Playbook could respect that.
eXistenZ
JUST WRITE "EXISTENCE". IT'S A WORD THAT ALREADY EXISTS. Don't spell it like you're a 7 year old girl posting a Facebook status.
Die Hard 2: Die Harder
UM. Once you Die Hard, you've already Died Hard. There aren't LEVELS to Dying Hard. Once you cross the threshold and go from dying to Dying Hard, you've just Died Hard. Nobody's saying "Oh, that guy fell off the Nakatomi Plaza and Died Hard, but the guy who died piloting an airplane into a helicopter really REALLY Died Hard."
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2
I know we all know what the Twilight Saga is, duh, but what the f*ck is "Breaking Dawn" supposed to mean? Is it, like, the moment when dawn starts? Because that's already called "dawn". Is someone trying to STOP dawn from coming? Because that would be called "Stopping Dawn". This movie should have just been called "Vampire Love: The End of Vampire Love" or, even better, when you walked into the movie theater they should have just played the first half of the first season of True Blood.
