Disney isn’t discounting the possibility of adding Marvel or Star Wars theme to its Infinity hybrid products.
Speaking with GI International, the firm’s Bill Roper said when the IP was first started three years ago, the firm worked hard on “identifying the properties that we felt would really make the platform sing at launch.”
With the many different character across the company’s properties, the potential to “tap” into the various IP across the company is “infinite.”
“That was definitely exciting when [news of the Star Wars acquisition] came down from within the company,” he said. “We love the potential for Infinity – we always joke, well, ‘the possibilities are infinite’.
“For us, we’re really just focused on launching this platform quickly. We’ve got incredible IPs, and we’re showing the strength of what we’re building with the way we’ve approached the creative, where everything in the game world is toys, so we can have a Jack Sparrow next to Sulley and it makes sense.
“”I think the beauty of something like Infinity is that it’s a platform that we’re building. So we don’t try to be coy about it – we’ve done a lot of work about identifying the properties that we felt would really make the platform sing at launch, but I never discount any possibilities with the vast array of characters and worlds that we can tap into across the company.
“There’s so much support from the top down in Disney Interactive to get the games right, and to make quality products. I think that’s incredibly well reflected in Infinity.”
Disney Infinity is due in August on 3DS, PS3, Wii, Wii U and Xbox 360.
