Former 2K Marin creative director Jordan Thomas has gone indie.
The news broke with little fanfare via Twitter.
“And to celebrate my first (public) day of indie dev I am home w/ my level 0 son. Making sure he doesn’t get ganked in the noob zone,” Thomas said last week.
The developer has not made any further public comment on the matter. Speculation is rife that Thomas’s departure is related to the slow development of 2K Marin’s XCOM shooter, which appears to have undergone dramatic reinvention, and will release as The Bureau: XCOM Declassified in August. We’ve asked 2K for comment.
Thomas played an important role in the development of the PlayStation 3 version of BioShock, and was later named creative director of sequel BioShock 2. He eventually became creative director of 2K Marin in general, and was described as an absolute treasure by the XCOM team.
Prior to joining 2K, Thomas worked Irrational Games and Ion Storm, among other positions. His past credits include Thief: Deadly Shadows. We wish him all the best in his latest endeavour and look forward to seeing his new projects.
