Steam Workshop now allows item creators to compensate toolmakers, communities, mentors

By Stephany Nunneley

Valve has announced that starting today, item creators in Team Fortress 2 and Dota 2 Workshops can choose from a selection of toolmakers, communities, and mentors and allocate a percentage of revenues from in-game item sales to the those who helped them in creating the items. The contribution will be made from a percentage redirected from Valve to the toolmakers so as not to be taken from the creator’s royalty. Since it’s launch in 2011, over 1,200 items created have produced over $10 million in royalties paid to creators.
