GRID 2: Demo Derby returning, Community Patch announced

By Stephany Nunneley

Codemasters announced the return of the Demo Derby to GRID 2 today along with a substantial patch. Full announcement in wall of text form is below.

Two game updates driven by player feedback are coming soon: one is an extensive Community Patch slated for August; the other the aforementioned return of the Demo Derby for free.

In the patch, a custom playlist will be made available and it will increase the amount of experience and money players receive for participation. Players will no longer be penalized for opting out of the Online Playlists.

Hardcore Playlist will remove the use of flashbacks and turns on full mechanical damage and it will also prioritize race events around circuits.

Those who have hit level 30 online will be able to progress to level 99 once the patch is live, and fastest lap times will now display at the end of an event on the race results screen.

New liveries are coming with more designs, including some of the single-player AI designs and the firm has increased maximum laps from 5 up to 10.

Those who wanted to veto an event type or location found in the past it was difficult to get a passing vote; after the patch, vetos will be fairer and only require 51% of the lobby.

You can will be able to mute your own microphone, and a player’s country flag will now be displayed next to their name plate while racing and on the event results screen.

The amount of money rewarded for racing clean has been increased, and now the ‘level up box’ at the end of each race can be skipped if wished.

Changes to the anti-cheat system have been made, which means the leaderboards within the game will now be “free of those who have to use illegitimate means to succeed.”

A cleanse of the Steam Leaderboards will be coming soon in order to get rid of “erroneous times from being displayed” which was the result of a bug/exploit that allowed people to set abnormal times.

The Demolition Derby mode for GRID 2 is being worked on, and as mentioned previously, it will be free across all platforms. It’s inclusion was “100% driven by feedback from the community.”

A date for release and more news on the mode will be announced in the coming weeks and in the months ahead, new tracks in the form of two track packs featuring “two of the most requested circuits to date,” will be released.

Each pack will contain a new circuit, some cars and also include new achievements and trophies.

Yesterday a patch was released on Steam which should fix the issues with save files corrupting. This fix will now be making its way to consoles in an upcoming patch.

An exact date for the Community Patch will be announced closer to launch.
