Greek start-up Monsters has announced that its psychological thriller Hybris, containing music from from Journey composer Austin Wintory, has been delayed into the first half of 2014.
The lovely looking physics-based puzzle platformer was originally written as a trilogy, but the team is now considering merging the three games into two bigger ones, for narrative purposes.
“This is part of the reason for the delay,” the firm said in a statement. “The other part? A burning desire to squeeze in more details of the rich universe we created [along with] better graphics.”
While gameplay details are still being kept a bit secret for the time being, we do know that it will include a one-slot inventory and a time-freezing mechanic. This will allow the player to time certain actions, “plus do some other neat tricks.”
Monsters is also considering launching a Kickstarter as it is currently “way over budget,” and it doesn’t want to cut any corners on development.
As we previously reported, in Hybris, the player controls a teenager named Kevin whose home life isn’t very pleasant. His parents fight all the time, he has the inability to connect with anyone, and the only peace he finds is on top of a hill where “the troubles of this world seem so far away.”
One night, Kevin struggles to stay alive after witnessing an event that will change the face of the world forever.
