Fans of Super Mario RPG shouldn’t expect its creator Yoshihiko Maekawa to craft another entry.
Speaking with Kotaku, Maekawa – who know works at AlphaDream on the Mario & Luigi games – said he accomplished what he set out to do with the first one.
“Actually, I don’t feel like I want to return to that world and use those characters in another game,” Maekawa said. “I feel like I was able to accomplish what I wanted to with that world and those characters and the gameplay ideas that came out of those, and now I mostly feel like I want to make something different.”
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was originally released on SNES in 1996 and re-released on Virtual Console in 2008.
Maekawa’s latest, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is out now Europe and hits August 11 in North America.
