Neverending Nightmares successfully funded despite backer error drama

By Brenna Hillier

Retro/Grade creator Matt Gilgenbach’s semi-autobiographical exploration of depression, Neverending Nightmares, has been successfully funded on Kickstarter with three hours to go at time of writing, despite a bit of a kerfuffle thanks to a pledge error as it crossed the finish line.

This is cheering news in and of itself, but for human interest you can’t go past the story of backers Gabriel Pinto and Thomas Davis. Due to the difference between decimal point and comma usage across territories, Pinto accidentally backed the game for $9,500 instead of his intended $95 – an amount he couldn’t afford. Unfortunately, this kicked the campaign over the finish line, and you can’t reduce your pledge to the point that it would leave a project under-funded.

Happily, Davis stepped in, temporarily increasing his own pledge to $3,000 in order to allow Pinto to bring his back to the original level. Other backers then added to their own pledges, so davis could also bow gracefully out of his onerously generous contribution.

Joystiq has a more complete report of the heartwarming community response to what must have been a bit of a nightmare for Pinto and Gilgenbach alike.

The psychological horror game is coming to Linux, Mac, Ouya and PC in August 2014; a PC-only demo is available through Kickstarter.
