Transistor hands-on details gameplay, “dynamic narration,” aesthetic elements

Transistor, the latest game from Bastion developers Supergiant Games, has containing top-down, isometric gameplay, with combat that initially plays like your standard action RPG.

But according to the PS Blog hands-on, the game contains what is called a “Turn” system which means that at any point during a battle, players can you can pull the R2 trigger to stop time around Red, the game’s protagonist.

Once enemies are frozen, she can then change positions and plan a series of attacks “executed in quick succession when you press R2 again.” You will have to pay attention to your meter, as these attacks deplete it.

Transistor’s story is also driven by “dynamic narration,” provided by the sword Red carries, and as the Transistor speaks, a “blue light pulses from its more transparent areas, matching the meter and accents of its speech.”

This means that the DualShock 4′s light bar will matche the pulsing light on screen. Sounds cool.

Go give the preview a read.

Transistor is slated for release on PS4 in early 2014. Watch the E3 live-gameplay video again below.
