Far Cry 3’s protagonist Jason Brody was – at one point – voiced by Deus Ex: Human Revolution star Elias Toufexis. The man who played augmented agent Adam Jensen was fired from the role over concerns that gamers would confuse both roles.
Xbox 360 Achievements reports that Toufexis revealed his doomed role during a panel session at London’s MCM Expo over the weekend. He stated that he recorded Jason Brody’s dialogue for two years before the release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution in 2011 sent alarm bells ringing at Ubisoft. In short, they feared the characters of Brody and Jensen sounded too similar.
During the panel he joked that his recognisable voice had lost him a few jobs over the years and recalled, “In fact, I shouldn’t say this, but there’s a game called Far Cry 3, which I’m sure you guys know, where I had played Jason Brody. I played him for two years, did the voice and when Deus Ex came out they replaced me because they were nervous that… ‘we don’t want people playing this game and thinking of another game.’
“It’s justifiable. It’s understandable, but my normal voice is what I used for that character too. So now it’s like I’m losing work because Jensen is so popular.”
