Tesco responsible for one third of GTA 5’s sales in the UK

Major UK supermarket chain Tesco is responsible for about one third of all the Grand Theft Auto 5 sales made in across Britain.

The Grocer reports the news (via MCV UK), and adds that the game helped boost the shares of Tesco to 17.1 per-cent from 11.9 per-cent in the same period of time last year.

Other major supermarket chains also saw the same improvements, Asda saw an increase of 2.3 per-cent to 12.1 per-cent, while Sainsbury’s saw a 2.9 per-cent to 6.9 per-cent.

Fiona Keenan, Kantar strategic insight director, stated, “Tesco has been the big winner.

“Asda and GAME also benefited, both growing their shares compared to last year. It will be interesting to see if the success of the supermarkets in the games sector continues this Christmas with the release of PS4 and Xbox One. GAME and Amazon are leading the way in pre-orders so far and we expect specialist gaming retailers to do particularly well in the run-up to launch as consumers look for help and advice,” she added.
