Turtle Beach has announced the Xbox One Headset Adapter for audio headsets will not be ready for the console’s launch and will not be released by Microsoft until until early next year.
The peripheral maker’s Xbox One headsets won’t make launch either, but will instead be released during Q1 of 2014, and will include the adapter, per CVG.
Microsoft will require these to be used with all non-Microsoft headsets, it seems when you read the press release, but other reports state the adapter is only needed to use current-gen headsets on Xbox One – so the wording is a bit confusing.
If an adapter is not needed with the new headsets created for Xbox One – the XO Four and XO Seven – why would the box include an adapter?
“Microsoft has informed its partners in the Xbox One console launch that the Xbox One Headset Adapter, being built by Microsoft and provided to Turtle Beach for inclusion with new gaming headsets, will not be available until early 2014. Both companies will leverage the additional time to build supply to meet anticipated high-demand when the headsets launch,” reads the Turtle Beach press release (thanks, Giga).
Sony issued a similar statement last week stating that legacy devices will require patch post PS4-launch in order to work with the console but current Bluetooth headsets will not be supported at all.
