Rise of Nations: Tactics was a completed, unreleased game developed by 38 Studios which will go up on the auction block December 11, according to new details unearthed by Heritage Global Partners, which is handling the auction.
“We are delighted by the strong interest coming from game developers and investors. In response to inquiries, we have a special team working on authenticating what assets are included for each game,” said Nick Jimenez, EVP of HGP. “In addition to the strong response leading to the postponement of the auction, we have committed to ensuring all interested parties have sufficient access and time to evaluate the technical materials in advance of the sale.
“Additionally, through the examination of the data contained on the 38 Studios servers, we have discovered a completed, but unreleased game for Mac users titled ‘Rise of Nations: Tactics.’ We only became aware of this game this past week through our own due diligence efforts.”
Rhode Island recently moved to delay the auction after it noted more interest in the property than it had expected; the extra time may allow more interested to organize bids, resulting in a higher end price.
The auction’s contents include: the rights to the Kingdoms of Amalur property; the near-complete MMO Project Copernicus; properties acquired by 38 Studios when it purchased Big Huge Games, including Rise of Nations, Rise of Legends and Catan; the Big Huge Games Engine; and 38 Studios’ Helios development and management platform.
Although no publishers have admitted to interest in bidding on the Amalur IP, Reckoning publisher EA is a good bet, as it’s mentioned an interest in a sequel, and it’s believed that Take Two was keen.
