Turbine agrees to settle Treehouse patent lawsuit

By Brenna Hillier

Turbine has agreed to license technology from Treehouse, a Canadian company which sued the MMO developer for patent infringement.

GamePolitics reports the lawsuit has been dismissed as a result of Turbine’s new licensing agreement, with Turbine opting not to battle it out in court.

Turbine originally denied any fault, and Massively reports the developer had the technology concerned in place before the patents were established.

Treehouse Avatar reportedly sent warning letters to smaller indie developers regarding possible patent infringements, but no further reports have surfaced regarding that.

Turbine is the developer of Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online.
