Microsoft has shuttered its Victoria studio in Canada

Microsoft has shuttered its Victoria studio in Canada, leaving 30 people out of work, according to Times Colonist, via Superannuation.

Microsoft told the news outlet the closure was part a plan to consolidate its resources and are “working closely with all employees affected by this change to identify open positions in other studios.”

Dan Gunn, executive director of the Victoria Advanced Technology Council, who spoke with the outlet, dismissed the idea that the closure had anything to do with Oak Bay resident Don Mattrick leaving the company for Zynga.

“I think we all hoped they would continue to expand. Don Mattrick was obviously a massive champion for that office and seeing him go caused us to take notice, but it’s tough to know the inner workings of a large corporate giant like Microsoft,” he said.

Microsoft opened the Victoria studio in early 2012.
