Grand Theft Auto 5 makers Rockstar are being sued by former Mob Wives star Karen Gravano.
She is alleging the developer used her likeness and personal story for the character Antonia Bottino who is featured in a random encounter mission titled “Burial”.
In the game, Bottino tells the player her father, Sonny Bottino, turned state evidence against the Gambetti crime family after retiring as an underboss.
Like the game character Bottino, Gravano’s father Sammy Gravano was an underboss for the Gambino crime family. He also became a government witness as part of a plea bargain.
Gravano is suing Rockstar for $40 million, according to NY Daily News: $20m in compensation and $20m for punitive damages.
“Notwithstanding the fact that plaintiff has the utmost respect for the writers and creators of the Grand Theft Auto 5 video game, her story is unique and is hers to tell,” the lawsuit reads.
Gravano is set to release a biography, and she feels Rockstar could have licensed her story “with relative ease,” and thus averting the lawsuit.
