Wii U may not be the most popular platform at the moment, but for at least one indie developer it’s proving fruitful ground indeed.
Mutant Mudds Deluxe has sold more on Wii U than on other platforms – Steam, PlayStation 3 and Vita – combined, Renegade Kid’s Jools Watsham revealed on Twitter last week. His comment refers to sales of the Deluxe port only, not the original Mutant Mudds.
In response to someone saying that the game has little competition on the comparatively under-stocked Wii U eShop, Watsham said “the size of the audience on Steam and PSV/PS3 is pretty massive in comparison to Wii U”.
PSN sales have not been strong enough to warrant bringing other Renegade Kid games to PlayStation platforms, he added.
Watsham said he doesn’t know why Wii U sales have been so much stronger. The developer is happy with Wii U sales so far, but disappointed in other platforms, and is hoping sales pick up.
Mutant Mudds first released on 3DS before coming to PC and iDevice. Mutant Mudds Deluxe is an updated port first released on Wii U ahead of PS3, Steam and Vita. The 3DS version is the highest selling to date, Watsham confirmed.
Renegade Kid recently announced Moon Chronicles, an episodic 3DS shooter title following on from its successful DS shooter, Moon.
