BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma “doesn’t fit on the disc” for Xbox 360

BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma is skipping Xbox 360, but developer Arc System Works says it’s not because it doesn’t want to release ports.

Speaking to Siliconera, producer Toshimichi Mori said Chrono Phantasma just doesn’t fit on a DVD – and the Xbox 360 doesn’t support Blue-rays, of course.

“If the Xbox 360 could increase its storage space by double then we could bring it there. Chrono Phantasma doesn’t fit on the disc,” he said.

“Basically, if you were to fit it on a disc you would have to compress it and the quality will go down and I was concerned that it would be an inferior version.”

It’s possible factors such as the Xbox 360’s low market share in Japan and the developer’s traditional PlayStation-dominated user base had an impact on the decision, too.

Arc Systems Works has compressed the game’s graphics down for the Vita release.

“If you looked at the Vita version, you can see that the graphics have been compressed. We’re busting our butts to make it look good,” Mori said.

“The quality for Vita is acceptable for portable systems. But if you had a Vita quality game on a home console, personally I’d be upset. We’re trying to make it to the best of our ability for a portable system.”

BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma arrives on PS3 in North America on March 25, and hits Vita sometime during northern summer. A European launch has not been announced.
