By Stephany Nunneley

Sony has announced its Authoring Tools Framework software is available for free to through the Apache 2.0 open source license. The toolset has been used in various Sony first-party games, such as Naughty Dog’s Last of Us and multiple Killzone tiles.

“We’re looking forward to expanding ATF’s usage beyond SCE, working more with external PlayStation developers and the larger game development community as a whole,” stated SCEA’s Ron Little in a press release. “Now that ATF is open source, we’re excited to see the ways developers use the toolset, which could expand beyond games.”

Thanks, Gamasutra.
