It’s not a full million, but $500k is still a lot of money, and Towerfall has hit that mark. Previously an Ouya exclusive, Towerful hit PC and PS4 last month, and those platforms have done all the heavy lifting, with PS4 actually being its most popular platform.
On Ouya, Towerfall sold a whopping 7,000 copies. “Being the best game on Ouya isn’t a huge deal, but it is nice. It still sells on there.” dev Matt Thorson told Eurogamer. Thorsen credited the communal nature of the multiplayer archery game for it being a hit on PS4 moreso than PC.
“I think it’s just a console game, ya know?” he said.”People have controllers – it’s not confusing to get the controllers like it is for PC – and people have it in their living rooms already. I think a lot of people still sit down with their friends when they play their consoles, whereas they don’t do that on PC. Even if it’s a single-player game. I know me and my friends will sit down and one of us will be playing a game while everyone else is just hanging out.”
Thorsen also gave some credit to Sony’s effort’s to promote the game’s release.
