Wargaming CEO Victor Kisyli has announced the company’s plans to invest $10 million during 2014 into improving and developing features supporting eSports.
During a press conference in Warsaw, Poland attended by GI International Germany, Kisyli said there has been unprecedented interest in World of Tanks eSports over the last two year.
Kisyli said in 2012 30,000 pro players took part in 120 World of Tanks tournaments, with the figure surging to 200,000 in 2013 across 1000 World of Tanks tournaments.
“With our eSports team we founded a company within the company,” he said. “They take care not only about game features to cater to spectators, but also about the physical organisation of the tournaments.
“In the beginning, it was not so much us who wanted to introduce World of Tanks to eSports, it was the players themselves who wanted to be more competitive.”
Wargaming invested $8 million in the eSports scene last year, it was announced, and at present, World of Tanks has over 80 million registered players worldwide.
