Chuck E. Cheese is getting kids hooked on Oculus Rift-based game

American pizza and arcade family chain Chuck E. Cheese, is working on Virtual Ticket Blaster Experience, a game in which children will wear the Rift in an attempt to win as many redemption tickets as possible.

Perhaps not entirely surprising, considering the firm is owned by Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, Chuck E. Cheese is putting a spin on its redemption ticket collection game. Virtual Ticket Blaster Experience will get a child to stand in an enclosed booth while wearing the headset, players will then attempt to line-up their crosshairs to catch the virtual redemption tickets. The game will then register the number of tickets collected, and the person can then redeem them at the merchandise counter.

This is one of the earliest consumer-facing attempts by a major company for the Rift, and should it prove successful, other similar experiences will surely follow.

“Kids today have unprecedented access to game consoles and tablets,” said CEC Entertainment president Roger Cardinale. “Our challenge is to deliver an experience not available at home, and there is no doubt virtual reality does just that. Oculus Rift technology is the next frontier in the gaming industry, and we’re thrilled to be able to say it’s part of the Chuck E. Cheese’s line-up.”
