Pre-rendered and PR-controlled footage is for suckers. What does Evolution’s racer really look like? We smuggled out this over-the-shoulder footage from Evolution Studios.
Watch these two fellas blaze through the Indian countryside in a previously unseen challenge mode. It looks good. Trust us, it plays better.
You want more raw Driveclub video? Below is the the Ferrari 358 Spider revving up. Listen to its deep bass scream – it’s a beautiful thing. The team wrote two of these off recently, probably by tanning them down the shops to get their chippy tea.
The team at Evolution stick 16 microphones in these bad boys; around the engine, up the exhaust, and any other outlet they can find to record real sounds. Microphones burnout, speakers are blown.
Alan McDermot, audio boss: “We possess the highest-quality recordings in existence. Manufacturers such as BMW and Mercedes called us up and said ‘can we have copies of your recordings to replace our own?’ That felt pretty good.”
“Forza and Gran Turismo had set the bar previously. Those were the ones that we looked to for inspiration but we’ve now set it further than that.”
“Forza and Gran Turismo had set the bar previously. Those were the ones that we looked to for inspiration but we’ve now set it further than that. There isn’t a racing game out there that sounds as good as Driveclub right now.”
It’s not just about realistic engine sounds either. There’s enough soundtrack for a double CD, all-new, original music by Welsh electro-dance group Hybrid.
And that soundtrack has been remixed by contemporary heavy-hitters like DJ Shadow and Noisia.
