DayZ developer Bohemia Interactive has been hacked, and the intruders might have made off with the zombie survival sim’s source code.
The hack was first brought to light by somebody claiming to have done the dirty deed; on Unknown Cheats, the alleged hacker posted what they claimed were images of DayZ’s source code.
(The thread has since been deleted, but not before Reddit captured the important parts.)
“Yeah right,” you’re thinking, “And I hacked the moon.” But Bohemia Interactive has since confirmed that a hack of some kind took place. The developer told RelyOnHorror as well as SegmentNext which broke the news, that it had “detected an attack” on certain servers.
“The precise nature and scope of this attack is currently being extensively investigated,” Bohemia added.
While Bohemia hasn’t confirmed the source code was nabbed, a tool for debugging the source code is already doing the rounds online, suggesting it has.
If the source code really has escaped, and is being spread around, then you can expect a new, massive wave of cheats to start hitting the game; for a hacker, getting their hands on this is like being given the keys to a castle.
No user information was compromised during the hack, though, and Bohemia doesn’t anticipate any inetrruption to its development schedule, so that’s alright, at least.
Thanks, Destructoid.
