Sony has announced it’s bringing its PlayStation business to China through two newly formed companies: Sony Computer Entertainment Shanghai and Shanghai Oriental Pearl Sony Computer Entertainment Culture Development.
Sony has partnered with Shanghai Oriental Pearl Culture Development (OPCD) in order to bring the console into China.
BesTV and OPCD are both part Shanghai Media Group and the former is partnering with Microsoft on the Xbox One release in the region.
The joint venture between the two firms will see one company handling sales and the other hardware R&D. Both “will introduce quality, healthy games that are suitable to China’s national conditions and the preferences of domestic players, as according to the relevant government policies.”
It is unknown at present which PlayStation products will be released in China, nor when to expect the first system to hit shelves.
Thanks, Engadget.
