Battlefield: Hardline is coming just shy a of a year after predecessor Battlefield 4, sparking fears that EA and DICE are taking the series annual. Studio general manager Karl Magnus-Troedsson was probed about the possibility of yearly sequels in a new interview.
It follows this Battlefield: Hardline interview, in which lead multiplayer designer Thad Sesser responded to concerns that the shooter is little more than a Battlefield 4 expansion.
Speaking with Eurogamer, Troedsson said, “We’ll keep making Battlefield games as long as we have great ideas for them.”
On annualisation, he added, “There’s no rule set in place for this.”
Troedsson explained that new Battlefield games will happen if a great idea comes along, and if DICE feels it’ll propel the franchise forward. There also has to be a team passionate enough about building the proposed new game before it can happen.
Troedsson’s words make sense, but it’s still unclear if another new Battlefield game will be announced for release next year.
