Here’s the reason Halo: Reach and ODST aren’t in the Master Chief Collection

Halo: The Master Chief Collection features just about every single Halo game made. Fans of Halo: Reach and Halo 3: ODST may be disappointed those two entries aren’t included, but there is a valid reason for the exclusion according to franchise director Frank O’Connor.

Speaking with OXM during E3 2014 this week, the 343 Industries boss said the focus is on Master Chief’s story and that is enough for now.

“The honest reality is that we had to cut it off somewhere, so what we needed was for the near-narrative of the Master Chief saga to be there,” he said. “ODST is a side-story, Reach is a prequel, they didn’t need to be there. So if you’re going to cut things, you should be trimming the fat.

“I wish we could have done it all, but it would have been impossible in the timeframe we had.”

For Xbox One owners and fans of Halo, the collection will serve as a plump lead-in to Halo 5: Guardians, which continues the Master Chief saga in fall 2015.

A beta for the shooter was announced during the Microsoft E3 2014 presentation this week, and fans can try their hand at it come December 5.

Halo:The Master Chief Collection will release on Xbox One November 11.
