Sony has just confirmed that its PS4 and Vita Ultimate Player Bundle is real, following a leak on Amazon France.
UPDATE:
It’s real. Sony said in a statement to Eurogamer, “The availability of the PS4 / PS Vita bundle will be determined and announced on a regional basis.”
That’s all you’re getting for now. There’s no solid release date or pricing yet, but we’ll update you once we know more.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Dubbed the “Ultimate Player Edition”, the bundle – which has been rumored on the hamster wheel since last year – purportedly contains a Ps4 and the new PlayStation Vita slim model.
The European price is listed as €579.99, which will run around the $789.99 mark in the US.
IGN did the maths and calculated the savings for you: there aren’t any. PlayStation Vita slim is priced at €179.99 ($245.16) while PS4 is €399.99 ($544.83).
Therefore, if not some odd joke posted by an Amazon employee, the bundle will run you the same price as a PS4 and Vita bought together in the US as well.
The price makes sense. Last year, when the rumor first surfaced, I contacted all the GameStop stores in the counties touching mine, as was told is a ‘true’ bundle with a discount were to be applied (as the $500/$400 rumor stated), customers could be getting $700.00 worth of stuff.
“So for $700.00 to be knocked down to $400.00 I don’t think that’s going to happen,” said the store manager at the time. “If they are going to bundle it, it won’t be for $400.00.”
We’ll just have to wait on solid details which will surely be revealed during Sony’s E3 press conference on Monday.
Amazon France lists the bundle for a July 4 release.
