Sunset Overdrive studio Insomniac Games has announced a new experimental game called Slow Down Bull.
Slow Down Bull was announced on the studio’s blog, where designer Lisa Brown called the project an “experiment.”
Brown explained that Insomniac is a fan of Double Fine’s Amnesia Fortnight development method, and Vlambeer’s ongoing work in shooter Nuclear Throne. The studio wanted to capture that methodology and apply it in-house. The result is Slow Down Bull.
“Slow Down Bull is a small action game about a stressed out, overachiever bull named Axel,” Brown continued. “He loves collecting beautiful things, but has to overcome his innate bull nature to accomplish his goals.
“Axel tries very hard to be graceful and cautious while he collects, but it’s very stressful! What if he bumps into someone? What if his bull-like nature erupts and ruins everything he’s trying to collect? What if he messes up???”
The game will see players trying to help Axel reach his goals without succumbing to his inner rampant bull nature. It’s currently being developed by a small team of 4-5 developers in Unity, and it will be streamed in a series of development broadcasts over on the Insomniac Twitch channel.
The first show will go live today, June 27 at 2:00pm PST.
