PlayStation 4 and Vita title One Way Trip has a rather interesting premise: a mass attack on the water supply has left a large portion of the nation with only six hours left to live, and they will be tripping balls the entire time.
According to the developers, the atmospheric exploration RPG title puts two brothers in a sad situation: they and most everyone they love is about to die.
In the process, the dying masses are hallucinating all sorts of weird, wild stuff – things which would make for an interesting hippy-dippy-trippy party – if humanity wasn’t on the verge of extinction, that is.
The game is also about mortality and opportunity, and while the player won’t be able to accomplish all of their goals, they can choose what their life is about and what is important.
One Way Trip contains a story mode with constant choice-based branching and procedural systems where the world and relationships will adapt to player choices.
Such choices could lead the player to experiencing “anything from a surrealist action-movie-style romp complete with turret sequences to a quiet, meditative philosophical journey where you never fire a single shot.”
Should the player get into combat, battles will be separated into its own mode, which will be of “comparable size and scope to the story mode.” More on the battle mode will be revealed at a future date.
You should read up on the game over on the PS Blog. It sounds interesting. And psychedelic.
It’s out next year.
