Counter-Strike and Dota 2 developer Valve has looked at how popular The International has been for Dota 2, and is considering doing something similar for Counter-Strike.
Speaking to Prodota.ru, Valve’s Erik Johnson said, “I don’t know if it would be called The International, but the guys working on Counter-Strike made a lot of progress on supporting the professional community around that game.
“We all work at the same company and share a lot of ideas, and given how successful this tournament has become I don’t see any reason why a lot of the same things couldn’t be applied directly to Counter-Strike”
When pressed by the interviewer, Johson said that Valve doesn’t have anything to announce at this time, though the data about the community’s response to The International is certainly a factor.
The International, in case you’re not in the know, is the largest Dota 2 and E-sports event. The tournament is hosted by Valve and the prize pool is supported by the community. For instance this year the community made the prize pool shoot over $10 million.
Would you be interested in a $10 million Counter-Strike tournament?
Thanks, Gamespot.
