Destiny developer Bungie has joined the charitable movement which has so far raised tens of millions of dollars for ALS research.
Destiny’s Ghost takes the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in the video above. Bungie will be donating 20% of all proceeds from its online store to ALS research until Destiny launches on September 9.
The Peter Dinklage-voiced Ghost didn’t actually mean to take the challenge, as the bucket was cast by a Hive wizard – from the moon. Bungie really is full of good sports, isn’t it?
The Wizard has now challenged Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Jonathan Irons, The last of Us’s Joel and, um, George Lucas – quite a lofty target, there.
Destiny’s Ghost was challenged by Warframe’s Corpus, which also tagged Halo’s master Chief and Borderlands’ Clpatrap. Neither of those have responded yet, as far as we know, but it’s early days.
Ghost is only the latest games figure to do the Ice Bucket Challenge. The scheme has spread like wildfire – somewhat ironically – and as such has attracted the same kind of frustration as any Internet trend or meme. But it’s really doing good, with over $70 million donated in less than a month. That’s a serious chunk of change to fund research into finding a cure or management treatments for the degenerative condition known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease or motor neurone disease.
Thanks, Joystiq.
