Assassin’s Creed: Unity will make use of real money transactions for players who wish to unlock items, such as gear, without having to earn the items playing through.
Speaking with OXM after a presentation at gamescom 2014 this week, senior producer Vincent Pontbriand told the site this was “pretty much” the extent of microtransactions in the new title.
He also stated such models would not be adopted into core game experiences unless it “made sense”.
“Companion apps, monetisation, other business models, digital only… We have to be reactive to these things, but not necessarily fundamentally change what we’re trying to do,” he said. “It depends. If we think it fits the gameplay, or the brand itself, the core values, we’re willing to take those risks.
“If not, then not. We’re not going to make any compromises.”
The full extent of how microtransactions will work in Unity wasn’t explained in full during the early build demonstration, said OXM.
Assassin’s Creed Unity will be released worldwide on October 28 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
