A Super Smash Bros. Tournament in Canada last weekend nearly had to award top honours to a small piece of plastic.
A Star Fox Amiibo was entered into a local Super Smash Bros. Wii U tournament in Richmond, BC as a joke.
Nobody at the tournament knew where Waveshine, as the Amiibo is named, had come from, but participants thought it would be funny to enter it into the brackets.
But whoever owned and trained the level 50 Amiibo was a bit of a beast, and the custom AI managed to fight right through to the loser’s semi-final before being knocked out.
Go read the full story of Waveshine’s triumph on Siliconera. If this sort of thing happens on a regular basis, I think it’ll be safe to say that Nintendo has done something very special with fighting game AI and ghost data.
