Some Amiibo will always be available, with Nintendo supplying fresh stock when retailers run out. Others are one chance only affairs, and you need to get in quick. Maybe. Nintendo is still thinking things through.
Update
A Nintendo representative has since clarified its stance on these one-off Amiibo, telling Polygon that some which were very popular launch are scarce due to high demand in North America and Nintendo managing shelf space at retail,.
“Certain sold-out Amiibo may return to these markets at a later stage,” said the representative. “We are continually aiming to always have a regular supply of Amiibo in the marketplace and there are many waves of amiibo to come.”
The original story is as follows.
Original Story
The Marth, Wii Fit Trainer and Villager Amiibo are getting thin on the ground at retails, and Nintendo won’t be sending more stock to store.
The news first broke via Canadian retailer Video Games Plus.
Nintendo has officially discontinued Marth, Wii Fit Trainer & Villager amibos. Sorry folks these are gone forever #Amibo #Nintendo #soldout

The retailer’s wording made it sound like the three Amiibos (oh my gosh the three Amiibos) had been cancelled, possibly due to low sales – but a follow-up statement from Nintendo indicates this was its intent all along.
“We will aim for certain Amiibo to always be available. These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link,” Nintendo told Wired in a statement.
“Due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.”
So basically, Amiibo figures are sort of one-run collector’s items. We can dig that, but a Nintendo representative also told Wired that the platform holder doesn’t plan on telling us which ones are limited editions ahead of time – you just have to buy them all, I guess. Wow.
Rare defect Amiibo have sold for amazing prices on auction sites, so we anticipate demand for the discontinued Amiibo to drive prices up hugely. Bit of bad news for those wanting the full set in areas where stock has already run through, hey.
