This video suggests friend notifications are in the works for PS4

A video showing what could finally be the long-awaited friend notification pop-up for PlayStation 4 has been released by Sony.

In the video below demonstrating PS4s’ social features, a notification pops up on the screen during Destiny gameplay.

While Sony has yet to make an announcement on the oft-requested feature, if the video is any indication, it may be coming in the near future.
