The Chinese market-exclusive Call of Duty Online has entered into open beta.
Call of Duty Online, the free-to-play spin-off of Call of Duty, has begun its open beta period in China.
The game is published by Activision in partnership with Tencent, a giant internet service provider and game publisher in China. Developed by Raven Software, Call of Duty Online is inspired by the Modern Warfare and Black Ops universes.
The game is free-to-play with the ability to buy or rent in-game items. It comes with the traditional multiplayer modes alongside a single-player mode called Hero Ops and a co-op mode called Survival.
A brand new mode called Cyborg will also be available. The mode is a PVE affair that incorporates Cyborgs and is exclusive to the game.
“Millions of gamers in the West have come to appreciate that white-knuckled, epic thrill-ride that only Call of Duty delivers. And now an entire new audience of gamers will experience this for the first time. We believe Call of Duty Online is going to be a game-changer for Chinese gamers,” said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg.
“Throughout testing, the community feedback has been tremendous. We couldn’t be more excited and we look forward to winning the hearts and minds of a new community in China.”
