Digital sales for Nintendo are up 17% year-over-year to ¥21 billion ($177.3 million) according to the firm’s latest financial data.
According to company president Satoru Iwata, there has been a decrease of digital sales in the Japanese market yoy, where as in the Americas and Europe, the figure has “dramatically increased.”
“In the US, purchases of digital products in general have been widely accepted by consumers,” he said in the investor report. “As a result, the ratio of people who purchase and download digital game software is high.
“As you can see, when we focus on the Americas and create a chart of the download sales percentage of the total software sales, the ratio of the download sales has been increasing largely in the most recent three fiscal years.”
Iwata noted that in the US, purchases of digital products have been “widely accepted by consumers,” with the ratio download sales increasing in the region over the last three fiscal years.
He said the firm has been continuing its “efforts in this field,” and making steady progress in the digital sector thanks to increased Wii U and 3DS purchases on the eShop.
