ICO Partners published its year in review article taking a look at what the press have written about during the past year.

Based on the number of articles, the PlayStation brand was ahead of all other brands, including Xbox. PlayStation had a 35% lead over the closest competitor, Xbox, based on 560,573 articles for PlayStation and 411,380 for Xbox.

As for the ongoing competition between both brands, at least as far as press headlines go, PlayStation once again gets more mentions than Xbox for most months of last year, with a massive boost to PlayStation in December, probably due to PlayStation Experience.

Games-wise, the games mentioned most in headlines were Titanfall, Minecraft and Destiny, with a total of five shooters in the top ten. Minecraft continues to be an anomaly by being always in the top 15 in any given month, and is the number 2 game for the year overall.

As for MOBAs, League of Legends was the number one game, it got four times as many mentions as the closest competitor, DOTA 2.
