I try to suppress my urge to take selfies. I understand how they can
be important, and how people not normally seen as “beautiful” by media
portrayals of their body types/skin color/etcetera can use them to
finally control the way their appearance is depicted, which is a helpful
empowerment tool. But I’m a straight white dude in his twenties; I feel
no systemic discrimination, regarding my appearance. But if I did
something crazy, that very few other people had done? Baby, selfie me up! There’s no shame in getting busted
taking a photo of yourself achieving something huge, especially if it’s
literally huge. Like, if you're really, really high up. That’s why I
doff my hat to the following selfie-ers, and wish them further really
stupid but impressive accomplishments!
