Overdog app is out on Xbox One and wants to improve your matchmaking experience

Overdog is a new app which launched today on Xbox One, and it matches up users with similar interests much like a social network or a dating service.

The app matches users with others based on interests such as TV, games, Movies, sports and more. One of the goals behind it is to allow match players with celebrity gamers as well.

The service is free, per Major Nelson.

Back in November, Overdog secured a funding round worth $1.8 million from venture capitalist firms as well as Zynga founder Mark Pincus and Machinima founder Allen Debevoise, per VentureBeat.

“If you love Game of Thrones, the San Fransisco 49ers, The Black Keys, and OpTic Gaming, we think those factors should help determine who you play with when you sit down for a game of Call of Duty,” Overdog president and former NFL linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer told GamesBeat.

“Overdog can find the ideal gaming partner for whatever game you are about to play, and, of equal importance, we can help filter out the bad apples. A platform that makes who you are in the real world relevant to your gamer-self is long overdue.”

Hillenmeyer said the company wants to be in a “healthy spot with Xbox One” and deployed on a second gaming platform before more money needs to be raised.

The ultimate goal is to “improve matchmaking for online gamers across all platform.”
