Papo & Yo developer making a VR game about dinosaurs

By Brenna Hillier

Some days you write a headline and it makes you so happy that that you have to do a little chair dance, you know what I mean?

Papo & Yo developer Minority Media, whom I would personally go to the wall for after they cut out my heart and stomped on it via the medium of video games, has a new virtual reality game in the works. And it is about dinosaurs, AKA the perfect thing.

Time Machine is on show at GDC 2015 with an Oculus Rift build, and while it has no release date Minority said it plans to complete the game “to coincide with the release of the first consumer VR devices”, which may also mean Vive and Project Morpheus.

Paop & Yo creative director Vander Caballero is once again leading the project but the game is being written in collaboration with sekretagent Productions, which contributed to four Assassin’s Creed games. Inspired by films like Contact and Interstellar, Time Machine is designed to tell a deeper story through sci fi themes.

The game is set in 2070, an era of peace, prosperity, and the pursuit of knowledge. You are part of an elite research team recruited by the Monda Muzeo (World Museum), humankind’s leading institution of knowledge, founded by an enigmatic figure. Your mission is to assemble the most comprehensive record of Earth’s prehistory ever created. To complete your quest, you will travel back to the Jurassic era and navigate a treacherous ecosystem while scanning live dinosaurs to collect their biological data. But it won’t be that simple. Can you manipulate the fabric of time…without tearing it?

Oh gosh yes, put it in my life. I am ready. I am so excited to be VG247’s resident sci fi nerd today.

Note that this isn’t Cali, Minority’s previously announced project. Minority told us via email that news about Cali is “just around the corner”, so expect an update later in the year.

Thanks, Polygon.
