Shenmue 3 Kickstarter hits $3 million, all four $10K reward tiers filled

The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter is set to hit its $3.2 million stretch goal soon, because as of press time, backers have already pledged $3 million to the project. And $40,000 of the figure was doled out by four folks pledging at the $10,000 tier.

One of the $10,000 tiers includes not only the contents of the $500 tier, but Ryo’s jacket worn by Masaya Matsukaze for all of the Shenmue press events 14 years ago.

It also includes a special video message by Yu Suzuki and the backer’s name listed as a Special Sponsor in the credits.

This reward tier was pledged by NeoGAF’s NeoNess, but he’s unsure if he’ll cancel the pledge at this time, despite members of the forum trying to convince him otherwise. It’s a damn cool jacket though.

The three other $10,000 reward tiers have also been filled, and along with the inclusion of the $500 reward tier, backers and a friend of their choosing get to attend a dinner party with Yu Suzuki in Japan. An original Japanese script set from Shenmue 1 and 2 is also included and the backers will be named as Special Sponsor in the credits.

People really love the Shenmue franchise, and proved said love by making the Kickstarter a success within 24 hours. The game’s $2 million funding goal was in addtion to the $2 million Sony tossed toward its development.

The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter was announced on Sony’s E3 stage, and it’s in development for PC and PS4.
