In a press conference this morning, Square Enix has announced two Dragon Quest games for Nintendo’s NX.
Update: The publisher has now said the NX release is “under consideration” (via Gamespot).
Original story: Nintendo’s yet-to-be-revealed console, the NX, has two games already lined up from Square Enix. The Japanese publisher held a conference this morning to outline the future of the Dragon Quest series and revealed many exciting details.
Out of all the announced games, only two are of relevance. Dragon Quest 11 and Dragon Quest 10 have both been announced for release on Nintendo NX. Dragon Quest 11 is a new game that’s also coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.
The two versions differ in that the former is an open-world RPG built on Unreal Engine 4 while the latter is a top-down RPG that offers both the classic 2D sprite option and a top-down 3D option – each occupying one screen. It’s not clear if the NX version will be ported from the PlayStation 4 version or the 3DS version.
Dragon Quest 10, the MMO that’s already available on Wii and Wii U, will make its way to the NX as well as PS4.
Nintendo has not revealed anything about the upcoming system, beyond its codename. We’re expecting an official reveal in 2016, and according to industry reports, 2016 may also be the year it’s released.
Thanks, Eurogamer.
