Those participating in the Street Fighter 5 beta will have immediate access to four playable characters.
The beta kicks off on July 23 on PlayStation 4, and on July 25, the roster will expand to six with the release of Birdie and Cammy.
Capcom said the two-day delay for the fighters provides an opportunity to test the game’s new content delivery system.
The primary purpose of the beta is to test online functionality and matchmaking, so local versus mode won’t be an option.
Upon booting up the game, once players go past the start screen they will be able to select a fighter. They will need to choose wisely, as they will not be able to select a different character before heading into battle.
Once selected, the fighter will take part in a training mode until an opponent is found. Once another player is matched up, testers will be transported back to the versus screen and the match will start. Fight stages consist of Bustling Side Street (China), Terminal Station (London) and the new Forgotten Waterfall (New Zealand) stage.
At the end of the fight, players will once again be taken to the Grid to await the next match.
For now, PlayStation 3 Stick functionality isn’t available as it’s being evaluated “for the final product.” In other words, PS3 joysticks and controllers will not work during testing.
To sign up for the beta, head over to Capcom Unity where links to all available regions have been posted along with more information.
Street Fighter 5 will be released on PC and PS4 during spring 2016. A PC beta is expected sometime this fall.
