Final Fantasy 14 has quite a large number of players. It’s enough to rival the current subscription numbers for World of Warcraft.
Square Enix announced today the Final Fantasy MMO now exceeds 5 million registered accounts globally, excluding those playing the free trial. That’s a 1 million jump from February.
Granted WoW has been around for 11 years, whereas Final Fantasy 14 is only around five years old; however, the game was given a new lease on life in November 2012 when the developers started rebuilding the MMO from the ground up and reduced subscription fees were reintroduced. The new version of the MMO was re-released in 2013 as Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.
Having the MMO on multiple platforms helps matters as well: it is available on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4 and makes use of the Remote Play feature for Vita users.
Final Fantasy 14: Heavensward is the latest expansion for the game, and is available now on the aforementioned platforms with a free 30-day trial for new accounts, with monthly subscriptions starting at £7.69.
