Skylanders Battlecast is a new free-to-play card battler coming to town

By Stephany Nunneley

Skylanders is coming to mobile and tablets in the form of a new card battling game.

Titled Skylanders Battlecast, the free-to-play mobile adventure set within the franchise’s universe contains online PvP, card combat, and a single-player campaign.

Players will create a team of heroes for their deck and use card combinations to best their opponent, like a typical card battling game.

Cards can be purchased as physical card packs at retail, as well as digital card packs in-game. The physical cards can be scanned using the mobile device, and two character cards can be used to create animated duels to “physically interact with the characters.”

“We are bringing physical cards to life in an exciting new way. Activision has assembled a team of experts across video game design, physical card game design, pro card players and top card artists to develop an amazing new experience,” says Josh Taub, Activision’s SVP, product management, in the press release.

“With Skylanders Battlecast, fans can expect the amazing creativity, innovation and fun that Skylanders games are known for delivering.”

Coming in 2016, Skylanders Battlecast will be available via the App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.
