A new video for horror game Until Dawn as been released, giving the viewer a look the potential aftermath of decisions.
The developer has spoken before about the Butterfly Effect system in the game, and how “moment to moment” decisions will have an immediate or long-term effect on the events in the story.
“There are thousands of potential branches to every player’s individual story,” said Supermassive Games. “Some of your decisions might appear to be inconsequential – a conversation choice that makes a character come across as a bit of an ass, for example – but if you’d made a different choice that character might have ended up the hero.
“Everything you choose can affect how other characters react, potentially with dire consequences. Some choices are more obvious but much more difficult, like choosing which friend will live and which will die.”
Players will be unaware of how their choices impact the story until after one is made. This way, players won’t constantly be second guessing choices because they won’t know the consequences until hours later at times.
Until Dawn is out August 25 on PlayStation 4 in North America, August 26 in Europe and August 8 in the UK.
