You probably won’t be surprised to learn “serious planning” for Halo 6 is underway

343’s Frank O’Connor and Bonnie Ross have said they both know what’s going to happen in the next Halo game.

The team has laid the groundwork for the franchise’s “fictional foundation” for the next 20 years, according to GamesRadar. This fits right in with what Xbox boss Phil Spencer said the other day: that Halo could last for another 20 years – if managed properly, that is.

“We do kind of know what’s going to happen in the next game pretty well at this point,” said O’Connor. “We’re doing serious real planning and even some writing on the next game already, and that’s a luxury – we’ve never been in that position before.

“So we both know at a very high level what’s going to happen in, say, ten years from now. But at that very granular level knowing what’s going to happen in the next game and that’s just been a great feeling for me”.

That being said, this doesn’t mean the next Halo game will be out next year. Halo 5 isn’t even out yet, plus the core Halo games are not an annualized franchise.

O’Connor said when it comes to Halo, the team is careful not to make “the stepping stones too rigid” but the team ultimately knows what is going to happen in the next game and what the future holds for Master Chief.

Halo 5: Guardians will be released on Xbox One October 27.
